Carson
Sierra Spinners & Weavers
Our guild was formed in 1976 in an effort to create a resource for practicing and aspiring fiber artists in and near Carson City, Nevada.
Our aim is to:
- Promote appreciation and knowledge of the fiber arts in our community through demonstrations at schools, fairs and other community events.
- Provide a support network for fiber artists and enthusiasts in our area.
- Keep the fiber arts alive by encouraging others to take up spinning and weaving.
- Support local fiber-related causes.
Meetings, Dues and Membership
Our guild meets on the second Saturday of each month, alternating between meeting sites in Carson City and Reno. Meetings run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with business conducted between 11:00 a.m. and noon.
Dues are $15.00 (without mailed copy of newsletter) or $20.00 per year if you select to receive the monthly newsletter via U.S. mail. Membership runs from January to December. Send dues to: Doris Woloszyn at P.O. Box 229 Chilcoot, CA 96105, and make checks payable to Carson Sierra Spinners & Weavers. We welcome members at all levels of expertise, including beginners who are simply interested in learning more about fiber arts.
Those who think they may be interested in joining are invited to attend a meeting as a guest. See our meeting schedule for details.
Nevada State Fair
Each summer our guild participates in the Nevada State Fair by providing demonstrations, displays, and competition opportunities. This is an opportunity for guild members and other fiber enthusiasts to gather and share their skills and enthusiasm.
The Fair is also an opportunity for the uninitiated to come and learn a little bit about the fiber arts. Traditionally, the event is held during 5 days in late August at the Livestock Events Center in Reno.
