October Minutes:
October minutes were approved. A correction was made to the November newsletter. Nancy Grundy’s correct street address is 4360 Kings Canyon. Directions to her home were correct, so follow the directions to get to her house for our December Christmas Party meeting Dec. 9th.
Treasurer’s Report:
Doris was not present so there was no treasurer’s report.
Old Business:
Sharon needs articles for the newsletters. Sharon suggested the guild could have a blog. There is not charge for a blog. Other guilds have blogs. This would allow people to have interactive discussions on topics, plus submit photos. It was also suggested we could consider a FLICKR site. Amy will send out a copy of Sharon’s and others blog addresses for guild members to check out to see if they might be interested in doing something like this.
Our next meeting is the Christmas party at Nancy Grundy’s house. Directions are in the November newsletter, though use the correct street address of 4360 Kings Canyon. This meeting is a potluck. Bring white elephant items to sell for a guild fundraiser. There will also be an ornament exchange for those who want to participate. Eileen Goldsmith will be selling her socks at this meeting. Eileen will also sell her socks at a booth in Minden on Dec. 1st – 3rd.
Park Lane Mall will no longer be available for meetings. The January and February meetings will be at the Galena Public Library off Mt. Rose Highway.
New Business:
Marilyn Clarke hadn’t gotten in touch with her son yet about the guild website, so there is no information at this time.
Nancy Pryor was not present, so no information was available regarding the possibility of Stephenie Gaustad presenting a spinning workshop in 2007. Sharon suggests one item to be taught in a spinning workshop would be how to spin woolen and worsted yarns.
Heidi passed around postcards and brochures about the Fiber Retreat being put on by Conference of Northern California Handweavers (CNCH) April 19-22, 2007 at Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA.
Afternoon Learning Tree will be needle felting presented by Amy Shannon.
Toni moved the meeting be adjourned. Kathleen seconded. All approved.

The Library Thing Beryl Moody
I’ve found a new Internet toy. It is called Library Thing http://www.librarything.com/ and it allows you to catalog up to 200 of your personal library books for no charge. If you go over that you can pay a $10 a year fee or a lifetime fee of $25.
The new service was discussed in detail recently on WeaveTech, with the emphasis on cataloging your fiber library. I started out by doing that, but found it was like eating pretzels so I decided to pay the lifetime charge and do my entire library.
You can make your library public or private, add tags to sort your books into categories that make sense to you and add your own personal notes and rating for each book. Try it out – I think you might like it.
The Learning Tree Linda Loken
This months learning tree workshop will be a hands on plying experience! Please bring your spinning wheels and prepared fiber to the next meeting and then stay after to learn and practice different plying techniques like balanced 2 ply, 3 ply, cabled ply, Navajo plying and possibly (if we have time) a chance to try making boucle yarn. Boucle is actually made by plying...ah...sorta....well...you'll see! Sharon Campbell will share her secrets for perfectly balanced yarn and other plying tricks she has learned along the way. For Navajo plying a tensioned lazy kate work best. Bring commercial yarn to practice this technique.
Those of you who are already experienced at plying are encouraged to please join us in sharing what you know with those who want to learn. That's what it's all about! Let's keep it growing!
The calendar for the coming year is still in the works. Please be patient as we pull it together. I'm sorry to say my father has passed away and I sorta had to put the calendar down for right now. Fear not, life does go on and so the learning tree becomes bigger, taller, stronger and more far reaching with continued nurturing and care.
