Introduction to Word Processing
Spring, 2006
This is an introductory course in the use of word processing
software, more specifically in the use of the Microsoft Office 2003 word
processing application, WORD. This class is a 1/2 –credit, P/W
class. Your successful completion of the class will depend upon your
attendance on January 3 and January 5, from 1 – 5 p.m., your class
participation, and the completion of some practice labs. This is
basically a hands-on class. We will meet in a computer lab where the
instructor will present and demonstrate word processing concepts, and then
guide students through a variety of tasks at the computer using the Word
software. Following are the objectives and an outline of the word
processing concepts that will be covered

Create a simple document, save a document, use Microsoft Word’s
automatic text features for entering text, and access online help

Make changes to an existing document using a variety of editing
techniques

Apply text formatting to a document

Change the appearance of a document by applying various paragraph

Create a table, navigate and enter text in a table, and enhance its
appearance through formatting

Add graphic elements to a document

Control a document’s page setup and its overall appearance
