Molecular techniques: DNA, RNA, plasmid isolation and purification, cDNA synthesis and cloning, library constructin and screening, use of restriction endonuclease, linkers, and modifying enzymes in molecular biology, Southern and Northern blot analysis using radioactive and non-radioactive probes, expression of cDNA in bacteria, purification of proteins, transformation of bacteria and plants (Agrobacterium vector system), gel retardation assays, DNAse I, Hydroxyl radical footprinting, PAGE, purification of oligonucleotides using denaturing PAGE, SDS-PAGE, sequencing (manual and automated), PCR including RACE, designing PCR primers, Western blot analysis, ELIZA and other immunological techniques including immunization and isolation of immunoglobulines

Tissue and cell culture: Genetic engineering of plants (cloning through confirmation of transgenes), tissue culture of rice, mustard, tomato, tobacco, carrot, alfalfa, petunia, himalayan pines, apple, aspen,"Badahar" a multipurpose tree and somatic embryogenesis of red spruce, Protoplast isolation and electroporation.

Biochemical techniques: Protein purification using traditional sephadex columns, HPLC, Thin layer chromatography, Isoelectric focusing, Affinity chromatography, Enzyme assays, use of 14C and tritium
