Course Objectives:
At the end of the course, each student should be able to:

Create a working Internet store front
- using the OSCommerce software. /A
  - Install the software on an Internet server. /A
  - Maintain and back up the resultant databases in MySql. /A
  - Set up the store front in OSCommerce. /A
  - Enter merchandise; add images, set parameters, prices and shipping. /A
  - Set up the shopping cart and order processing. /A
  - Customize the store front look by working with PHP and CSS files:
    - Change images. /A
    - Change text. /A
    - Change colors. /A
  - Setup account with PayPal and process one purchase. /A,B
  - Determine and display policies. /A
Build a working Internet store front, using existing Internet sources.
Investigate existing Internet store fronts.
- Learn good practices and policies. /B

The above goals will be measured using a combination of:

Create a working Internet store front.
Report to the class.

Catalog Description:

CIT 454 - eCommerce 3 cr.

Ecommerce examples will be explored, along with concepts of this modern selling environment. Two working ecommerce sites will be developed on the Internet. (Prerequisite: a Web Specialist emphasis, or COT 301 and CIT 302)

Textbook
There is no required text book. Learning materials will come from the Internet and the OSCommerce site.

Student Project:
The main Internet store front is due on December 13. This project, is the main basis of your grade. It is a comprehensive store front application showing what you have learned during the course. More information on the requirements of the project will be presented in class.

Internet Server:
Students can either use the college system's Internet server to house their OSCommerce store front or use a commercial storage site such as Godaddy.com.

Instructional Methods:

The class will be taught by presenting concepts and demonstrating technologies. The student will then add these to their class project.
Class will meet at the scheduled time as needed.
Much of the class work will be work completed by the student on their project. During weeks of such work, we will not meet as a class.
Much of the communication will be conducted through WebCT.

Attendance:
This class requires regular attendance. Classes can be missed, however, as long as the project is maintained.

Cumulative grades will be determined as follows:
100-98 A+
97-93 A
92-90 A-      Worth:
89-88 B+      Project: 80%
87-83 B        Reports: 20%

79-78 C+

Cumulative grading will use + and - on assignments, tests and the final, recorded grade.
Some times, and for very good reasons, a student is not able to finish a class, and needs to withdraw from the class.
- Through week 12:
  - A grade of W (withdrawn) will be recorded for anyone who formally withdraws by meeting with the instructor and filling out a withdraw form.
- A grade of F will be recorded for anyone who simply does not come to class any more.
- It is important to realize that for any one withdrawing from the class, the difference between earning a W on the official class record or earning an F is the process of formally withdrawing
- After week 12:
  - Anyone withdrawing will receive a grade based on all assignments, including those missed.
Extra credit may be earned if your grade is currently a D or below.
Before doing anything regarding this class, please consult with me. It is my job to assist you in making class decisions.

During the class, your completed work may be displayed for the benefit of the entire class. If this bothers you, please notify me in writing during the first week of class.
