Bank

There are many banks around the downtown Reno. The Bank of America is not only the most nearby (i.e., the University Branch, located on North Virginia St.)but they have a ATM's machine on campus as well. However, the best suggestion is to shop around for the best deal before make a decision. You might have to make yourself get used to using checks. Most of the American prefers that way of payment next to using credit card and cash. Paying for utillities, telephone, or even house monthly rent need payment by checking.

Accommodations

If you would like to live on campus, there are two choices to choose for. The first one is "Resident Halls" such as Nye Hall, Canada Hall, Juniper Hall, Lincoln Hall, Manzanita Hall, White Pine Hall and New Ressidence Hall. Normally, The information of University housing will come with the letter of admission, however, you might obtain the information by visit Residence Halls. Some of them are required for meal plans but some of them are optionally. So watch out.!! Please check the policy before you make a decision. The second one is "Family Housing". To be eligible to live at University Village,at least one member of the household must be a full-time students as  defined in the University catalog and you must be married status. If you are interested in living here, you must complete an application, which will then be placed on a waiting list by the date and time your application is received in the University Housing office. Keep in mind that if you are really want to live here, please fill out the application earlier because it normally will take almost a year(or more) to be accepted.  The other choice is simply keeping your eyes opened. There will be a post in Newspaper or posting boards around the campus for housing and some of them looking for roommates. Well, The University Housing is a good resource for start. You can get information for both on-campus and off-campus. It will provide the pamphlet about the name and location of off-campus dwelling. And the bulletin board might be a good resource for roommate seeking, room available in the small apartment that not well-known,etc...

Mobility (Planes, trains and automobiles, plus bikes)

There are several travel agents around Reno. A good deal of air fare would be in low season or it 's to be planned at least 3 weeks ahead to get cheap air fare. There are always good deals for booking from internet so get yourself hooked on and surf for the good deal.

To check the price of both new and used cars on the internet, point your web browser to www.kbb.com ( kelly's blue book web site).

When you want to go back home, booking with the Thai agents is a good idea. Sometimes air fare of going back home is as low as $550 round trip.

Some of credit cards or long distance telephone company offer coupons to travel for less. Check with yours and see what 's the deal.

Train is scenic way to travel but few people choose it.

The price of the used car can be estimated. You can study this from "the blue book" which can be bought from any news-stand around the campus. There is an advertising section in the newspaper as well.

Bike ranges from $10 (used) to $150 and $1,000 (mountain bikes). Bikes are good for health and easy to park.

Computers

Best deal is mail order. The best choices [PC Magazines] are among Dell's, Gateway's, HP's. Or order from our book store, you don't need to pay tax (Not bad..Huh!!)!!)

Foods

Two oriental grocery store in town. One called "Asia Market" is on Prater Way close to "DMV" and the other one called "International Market" located on South Virginia Street which is close to "Movie Theater". Fresh seafood and fresh vegetables are coming 2 days a week on Monday and Thursday.

Dairy, Meat and Vegetables can be found at "Rally", "Safeway", "Alberson", and "Wincos food". Some of us recommend "Wincos food" to shop for less (cash only).
