1920's - Bisnoni Makes Silk on the Farm

Teenage Noni Eventually, the war ended and Bisnoni went through her teen years on the family farm. With her formal education disrupted by the war, she never went back to school after the 3rd grade. When Bisnoni was 13, her mother died shortly after returning from the south of Italy, which Bisnoni described as one of the greatest tragedies of her life.

Bisnoni had a flair for theatrics and joined the local theater group. She also sang in the church choir - an activity she did many times during her life. Bisnoni's brother found her a job as a housekeeper at the monastery for which he served as a priest. She also helped to run her fathers household after her mother died. These pictures are of Bisnoni in her teens. In the top one, Bisnoni is working on the farm. In the bottom picture, Bisnoni is with her two friends she met in school years ago. In fact, the friend sitting to the right of Bisnoni is the same person sitting just in front of Bisnoni in her third grade class picture shown on the 1910's resource page!

One very interesting activity that Bisnoni did during the 1920's is raise silk worms and make silk. Here are links that describe the silk making process. Try to imagine Bisnoni as a teenager making silk on her farm in Italy!
