Welcome to the SCI Setlist Archive!
This site (was) a collaborative effort on behalf of SCI fans to accurately archive concert setlists for Colorado's own bluegrass-jazz-rock-fusion-whatchamacalit band known as The String Cheese Incident. If you find your live tapes or CD's don't match a setlist posted on the site, send an email to lcy@scs.unr.edu, and I'll correct it sure as pie. If you'd like to write a review for a show and have it linked off of a setlist, link your SCI fan site or post any cool news items, photos, or other any info, send me an e-mail! Please note that I don't have any contact with the band or their management, so if you would like to contact them or get touring or merchandise information, check out the official SCI page at www.stringcheeseincident.com. Now then, on to the goods!

July 2005 Update (well, sort of...no setlists, just checking in)
Wow, you're still here! Was sitting here bored at work and figured I'd add some stuff to this page. Haven't really checked out this page in a few years, and god it's funny how much the web, the world, the state of music, etc. has changed since I put up the first version of these pages back in 1997. You'll notice I put up that old Star Wars intro that I had done right before the Phantom Menace came out in the Spring of 1999. Funny stuff. I did slowly start going to shows again, albeit 3-4 times a year. Saw WSP up at Tahoe a few weeks back, as well as Moe earlier in the year as well. Turns out the 5 year hiatus of going to shows paid off, because I am having a blast (I just wish there were as many bands playing around as there were in the late 90s, and for the same price as back then!) As for SCI, still dig the old stuff (1997-2000), but (still) haven't seen the guys in ages (I think 1999 was my last SCI show) Funny, because I remember seeing them at Bar One in Tahoe in January of 1997, and remember how intimate/empty it was (one show, there were like a total of 15 people in attendance, not including the band) From what I hear, SCI is huge in the "jamband" scene these days (and I guess even popular in the mainstream), so it would really be a trip to see them now...With that, I can now fully relate with what old deadheads I knew back in the 80s would talk about with seeing the Dead back in bars and small theatres, and how they couldn't fathom seeing them in larger venues. God damn I miss the post-Grateful Dead era of Bar/Theatre shows in 1995-2000, when bands like Leftover Salmon, Moe, Acoustic Junction, SCI, WSP, Bela Fleck, etc, would play small places...(or even seeing Phish in Los Angeles (April 1992 I think), then at Greek in August of 1993, or WSP at the High Sierra Music Fest in 1994) Like my GD touring in the 80s-90s, it all just "melts into a dream". With the state of the world, popular music, and everything else, I am glad younger (and older farts like me) still have the opportunity to see bands like SCI, WSP, Moe, etc. Many of us need that outlet now more than ever. (on a side note, I can't believe what ticket prices are these days; for example, I remember my ex-girlfriend and I seeing WSP at Truckee Park in 1995 for $10.00, and by contrast when I saw them a few weeks back in Tahoe it was $55.00. Times change, indeed. Well, I've rambled enough, so take care everyone, and if SCI comes back to the Sacramento/Tahoe area, maybe I'll see ya there.

Peace,
Lance

July 2001 Site News and Updates: 07/22/01
I hope all of you are doing well this summer. To those of you who are asking where to get recent setlists and/or tapes, I'd suggest checking out friendsofcheese.com and the Incidentalist mailing list, as they are great resources for those kinds of items these days, and you should be able to find what your looking for. I really have no idea whatsoever as to what the band is up to, what they are playing, or where they are playing it. I've been out of the scene for about 2 years, and am just out of the loop on this kind of stuff. Anyways, I also wanted to take time out and thank the people that are sending information and stories my way, even with the site being on what appears to be a permanent hiatus. Well, maybe one of these days I'll update this place. Have a great summer y'all!

OLD NEWS (04/27/01): Golly, can't believe it's been a year. Hope you are all doing well. As you can tell, I no longer maintain the site; I've been out of the scene since about 1998 (after 12+ plus years of touring with the GD, Phish, WSP, et al), and while I'm sure it will come back, the magic for this kinda stuff just hasn't been there for me lately (hell, I haven't even seen the band since 1998). I still love the music, made some great friends, have great memories, but really the whole impetus for touring, partying, and spending money just hasn't been there (not to mention the harsh reality of a lack of local shows in the Reno-Tahoe-Sacramneto area, which kept all of us going after the GD's breakup in 1995) times change though - well, whadda ya gonna do? However, as long as I stay an employee/student at my University, I'll keep these pages up (for what thats worth, LOL!) I'd like to thank the people who send in updates every now and then, I hope to at least add them here one of these days, but please don't go to any great efforts to send info...There's just no telling if I will update anything anytime soon. There are many great SCI resources on the net, so be sure to check those out. What a long strange trip it was, and what a long strange trip it continues to be. Peace out!

OLDER NEWS (4/17/00): Well, it's been awhile I suppose. I haven't got around to doing any updates yet, but I'm shooting for May - at least the pre-2000 stuff all of you gracious folks have been sending in the last few months. I haven't given up on the site, but instead have just been too much of a working stiff this school semester to really get into it. I've also been doing contract web design crap on the side, so all of that stuff combined (to quote Stephen King's The Shining), has "made Jack a dull boy" But seriously folks, I should have some updates for you soon. One last thing (put in the ever-so obnoxious bold print for attention): this site is not affiliated with the band, their management, merchandising, or ticket agency. If you have a problem with tickets or want to book the band in your town, order t-shirts, etc, please contact the band via their webpage at www.stringcheeseincident.com. Thanks, I just had to say that due to the bunches of emails I get from time to time about this stuff. Anyhow, hope you're all doing good this year so far and we'll see you back in the world of 'dot-coms' (YECH).

EVEN OLDER NEWS (12/16/99): Ryan sent in setlists for 4/19/96 & 10/22/96 - nice to get some of the "older" shows archived, thanks Ryan! Corrections were made to the following setlists: 07/23/96, 01/10/97, 04/19/98, and 02/26/99 - thanks to Chris Stone and Ryan for sending those in. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Aly sent in some more news items (thanks!), and thanks to Mike Frasca, setlists for the Chicago Thanksgiving '99 run are now up; I should have an overall site update ('new' news, a new MP3, and some other junk) posted within a few days, so stay tuned.

REALLY REALLY REALLY OLD NEWS (11/99): Added a setlist for the 10/08/99 St. Louis show - thanks Jack; Also posted a revision for 10/14/99 - thank ya Brett... made some miscellaneous corrections to 01/08/97, 04/11/97, 10/07/99, and 10/16/99 - many thanks to all who submitted the corrections! I guess some AOL users were having some weirdness with the site (graphics overlapping, etc), and that should be cleared up now - let me know if not! The Halloween setlist is up, and wow - they even gave us "Down Under", a tune by the Australian gods of 1980's pop music - Men At Work! A setlist for 10/30/99 was sent in by Erik and Lawrence, and this one looked pretty unique - check it out! Thanks to Alan, there's now a setlist for 11-22-96 too (I love filling up some of the older stuff!). A new MP3 is now available at the bottom of this page! Added some more October setlists, a setlist for 4-11-96 (thanks Mike!), and did some general clean up. Many thanks to all who sent in corrections! Aly sent in a bunch of cool news items - the rumor section looks particularly intersting...Filled in the remaining holes for October '99 setlists (sans the damn Muncie list), and thanks go out to Erik, Cathy, Jack, & Greg for mailing those suckers in; The Muncie, IN 10/11 list seems to be pretty elusive - searched high and low, and still haven't found/heard of it...If anybody can help on this one, please send it along! Larry sent me some awesome discs of the Atlanta Oct '99 shows, and I' m in the process of ripping some MP3 tracks from it for your listening pleasure (actually, I made a track a few days ago, but some portions of it were cooked so I have to start the damn thing all over again; making a 6-10 meg MP3 & uploading it takes a LONG time - at least on my rig); So, I'll just give it the trademark "I'll have something posted soon" line on that. The Atlanta shows are very cool - I'd recommend em; My 1st copies of the new stuff: "Joyful Sound" (which I instantly fell in love with - it's like Keith's "Jellyfish" (did that make sense?) Too damn funky...Also, "Latinisimo" (can you say "salsa" and "Santana" 10 times real fast?), and "Water", which are pretty amazing in thier own right. I'll admit, I was never a huge fan of "Climb", but this tune has grown leaps and bounds (IMO), and is quite the powerhouse these days, with fast picking & jamming between Kang and Nershi going postal all over the place. "Climb" is truly an adventure these days compared to it's debut last year..."Miss Brown's Teahouse" is great for the opening slot, with it's funky-ass beats hitting me the same way (but entierly different of course) as say maybe "Wolfman's Brother", or maybe "Shakedown Street" would have years ago in 1st set opening slots on tour (we don't really have to name who did the afforementioned tunes now do we? :-) This was the newest SCI I'd heard in awhile (my newest shows in the collection were from April 99!), so needless to say, the Atlanta shows got me psyched, and huge thanks go out to Larry for his kind generosity...awesome. Also wanted to thank everyone for the kind words on the new site design - I'm glad you guys dig it! Thanks go out to Edmund & Larry for supplying most of the new pics on the site. Alot of people have been sending email asking about SCI tape and CD trades; Your best bet is to subscribe (or check out the Archives of) the Incidentalist Mailing List- there are tons of people trading there, and it is a great source for all things SCI to boot! Enjoy the week folks!

Peace out,
Lance

SCI News: January 2000 by Aly Constine
WINTER CARNIVAL 2000 (& Costa Rica!): All dates are out for SCI Winter Carnival 2000 tour and it all begins tonight with The Wool Warehouse shows in NM!! Tickets are available on-line at www.stringcheeseincident.com through SCI Fidelity Ticketing (except for the Saturday night Warfield show which must be bought through TicketMaster). There has also been an official post from SCI Fidelity confirming the rumors that this year's International Incident will be in tropical Costa Rica. No exact date yet, but it is scheduled to occur during the third or fourth week of May. I'm already blocking out a space of time and saving money for this wild experience.

NEW YEAR'S EVE RUN: What an unbelievable run of shows!! Monumental sets each night from SCI in both Vancouver and Portland along with tremendous performances from an array of other guests.
Both nights at the Vogue featured opening sets from Keller Williams and frequent appearances by Jamie Janover on hammer dulcimer. Janover also performed an entire tweener set on the 28th, choosing songs from his CD "Realms." Michael Travis and Billy Nershi unexpectedly decided to play a second encore on the 28th. Travis began by telling the audience that the rest of the band was too tired to play but that he and Billy were ready for one more. After some words from Billy (listen to the tapes), the two of them played "Elvis' Wild Ride"--Billy solo acoustic with Travis using his hands to play rhythm on the body of Billy's guitar.

The first Portland show on the 30th began with a set from Keller on the second stage followed by Calobo on the main stage. Travis joined Calobo's bass and keyboard players for a reeling version of the Chick Corea tune "Spain." Jamie Janover and Keller made appearances throughout SCI's sets, adding to the magic. The new song of the evening was a cover of the Yes tune, "Roundabout." They played the entire album version of the song, lasting about 20 minutes and SCI just nailed it.

Entering the Convention Center on the 31st was a total trip. I've never seen such elaborate indoor decorations. Much to look at as you walked around discovering that great music was going on everywhere. Two sets from Keller and one from Jamie on the second stage and an excellent performance by the Zen Tricksters on the main stage. Jamie and Keller joined in again during SCI's two sets, the highlight of which was during the encore on "Breathe." The ritual parade was beautiful with many intricate and crazily designed costumes. While the floats made their way through the crowd, SCI along with the Zen Tricksters played about thirty minutes of magical solos and jams.

This piece of music is appropriately being referred to as "The Ritual Jam" and has been compared to the intro to "Round the Wheel." It made for a perfect background for all of the visuals and really helped to make the parade quite a transcendental moment. The parade was followed by a bluegrass "Auld Lang Syne" into a cover of Bob Marley's "One Love," which perfectly signified the feelings running through the crowd. Next came "Bigger Isn't Better" with the excellent addition of Liza Oxnard on vocals. Oxnard was Billy's duo partner before he went into playing music full time^Å he credited her with being the motivation to quit his "normal" job and become a musician at the 5/1/99 show at Tipitina's in New Orleans. "Land's End" stretched over two days and took its usual epic stance. Then came the surprise of the run-side two of Abbey Road by the Beatles. "When 'Sun King' started I pretty much lost my *?!@ I knew they couldn't just be doing an obscure Beatles song like 'Sun King' without finishing the medley and they didn't. Pretty much note for note, but nothing short of jawdropping. If the video ever comes out, you'll see us with huge grins on our faces during this one. Absolutely phenomenal. The 'She Came in Through the Bathroom Window' was worth the price of admission." (Marc Ross)

THE VIC THEATRE: Had to go back about two months to get these new ones in here. During the Chicago Thanksgiving run at the Vic Theatre (11/26, 11/27) a couple of special guests joined SCI, adding some songs to the boys' repertoire. On the 26th Chicago Blues Legend Lonnie Brooks took the stage to help perform "Feeling Much Better Doin' Wrong," "Jealous Man," and "I Want All My Money Back." Lonnie is known as one of the best musicians in Chicago and had the crowd really moving on all three of these blues tunes. The next night featured Matt Spencer, a friend of the bands' from Boulder now living in Chicago, on percussion. He played on the first two songs of the second set, during what was said to have been the highlight of the night. The first song was introduced as a Mali rhythm called "Sunnu" which segued into a new Celtic tune called "Rivertrance." According to Don, "the beginning of the second set was one of the SWEETEST set opener's that I ever experienced... 'Trance' is what someone told me.... It must have been 15-20 mins and some of the most flowing, exciting new music I've found.^Å Look for this song on your trades/B&Ps, people.... It is amazing...J." The encore included "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers, this being the first time the band has really played it, start to finish. (They have teased it several times during past shows.)

CARNIVAL '99: The goods have found their way into many of our hands and are currently producing the usual ecstasy associated with the music of this band. For those who don't already have a copy of SCI's new live CD, here are the venues and shows from which each song is taken. The tracks are all from the 1999 tour (between 2/99 and 4/99), save for "Texas" (11/98) which Kevin Morris from SCI Fidelity said they just couldn't resist including. This version of "Hey Pocky Way" is up on the official website.

The photos in the CD cover booklet are a real treat. The back and center clips are from the Fillmore shows, as are some of the other pictures scattered throughout. Nice ones of the band and crew. Even a shot of Lester. Several pages also include reproductions of Michael Everett posters from the tour.

SCI ON THE RADIO - JANUARY 27TH!: On Thursday, January 27 at approximately 12 noon MST, SCI will be appearing for a live interview and short performance at Studio 2 on KBAC Radio Free Santa Fe (98.1 Santa Fe, 95.9 Albuquerque). It will also be broadcast live on the web at www.kbac.com.

SCI IN THE NEWS: There is a neat picture of Michael Travis hooping on top of Mt. Shasta on the cover of last month's Mountainfreak magazine. You can take a look at a pretty small version of the photo on the web if you visit www.mountainfreak.com. Inside you'll also find a 2-page spread of the "Dancing Around the Wheel of Time" poster. Check out the live music section of Skiing for an article about the boys and the latest issue of An Honest Tune for an interview with Billy Nershi. And, in this month's issue of Relix (I just got my copy today) there is a two page interview with Keith and Kang. Lots of talk about starting their own record label, a little about Carnival '99, and some nice stuff about what kind of music they listen to and how it influences them.

UPDATED SCI WEBSITE: The String Cheese Incident website has some worthy new additions. In the "Merchandise" section there are two new areas you can travel to. "Aged Cheese" offers a variety of String Cheese t-shirts from as early as '96. Some were designed by our very own Billy and Travis. Under "Friends of Cheese" you find CDs available from Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and the Greyboy Allstars, in addition to Keller Williams and Jamie Janover.

STRING CHEESE RELATED WEBSITES: Mitch Kline has created a great new website dedicated to the String Cheese Incident which can be found at www.friendsofcheese.com. It includes news about the Cheese, SCI related polls, tons of links, and even a couple of CD covers. A good resource for fellow Cheese lovers to find one another are the FOC Events page and the Local FOC guide. Once the Winter Tour begins the site will include setlists and opportunities to post show reviews. In addition, you'll find a trading board, a ride board, and a ticket board. Scott has also put up a new SCI message board for tape, CDR, and DAT trading at http://members.fboards.com/FOC/. Here you can post trades, B&P's, and pleas for those oh-so-desired shows.

KANG-McCANDLESS-ANGER-MARSHALL COLABORATION: A promising album is in the making featuring Michael Kang and a bunch of other bluegrass favorites. Here's some words from Darol Anger about the effort: After 2 days of intense rehearsal and a couple of months of preparation and composition, the Michael Kang-Paul McCandless-Darol Anger-Mike Marshall recording is going forward into the studio, here in San Francisco. Featuring the great rhythm section from Leftover Salmon, Jeff Sipe and Tye North, with the DA/MM band's Aaron Johnston on percussion, the group has prepared 9 of what can only be described as epic compositions (because they're so long!) and plans to throw together a few more jams on the spot as the tape rolls. Recording at the notorious instrument inventor Oliver DiCicco's Mobius Studios, home of many previous Anger/Marshall collaborations and Michael Hedges recordings, the group will spend about 5 days making a recording which will be released on String Cheese's own label, SCI Fidelity Recordings, and distributed by Ryko. We hope to see some touring in the late year 2000 with some of these same folks, if not a High Sierra appearance. According to Kevin Morris from SCI Fidelity the recording process is almost complete and the mixing will be done in March. They hope to have the record, which will be almost entirely instrumental, out by the summer.

SIDE PROJECTS: A couple of weeks ago there was a special gathering of family and friends at the Mountain Sun in Boulder for their annual employee appreciation/Christmas party. YMSB played two full sets, totaling just over 3 hours, and wrapped it up by playing a couple of tunes unplugged from the middle of the room. The entire second set featured Michael Kang on acoustic mandolin. "[Kang] spent most of his time playing rhythm chops, but often enough he stepped up and took great solos. I especially enjoyed his solo in the excellent cover of John Hartford's 'Aeroplane.' It was a real treat to see Mike playing a mandolin like a mandolin. All too rare these days, as the size of his instruments grow, and the tone is more and more guitar-like, you have to actually be watching him to know he's playing a mando not a guitar." (Dave Werber). The Mountain Sun also featured a performance by Kyle on the 9th along with Jamie Janover on percussion, Dave Watts on drums, Gregg Raymond on guitar, and Kurt Reber on bass. Michael Kang was seen playing with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe in Boulder during the second set of their ripping sold-out performance at the Fox Theater on the 14th. On the 17th, the Nederland Acid Jazz show held at The Wolf Tongue Brewery in Nederland, Colorado also included the input of Kyle and Kang. Along with them was Ross Martin on guitar, Erik Thorin on bass, Christian Teele on drums and Jamie Janover on percussion. According to FOC who were there, the jazz-jamming was great and it served as a fun departure from the guys' standard material.

BANDS COVERING SCI?: "Land's End" isn't a SCI original (it was actually written by Tim O'Brien), but I still thought this was of interest. At the Center for the Arts in Crested Butte, CO on December 6th the New Grange opened the second set with "Land's End" and the folks in Helena, MT got the same treat. Here are a few words from Pastor Tim who witnessed the Helena show. "The 2nd set jumped out of the box as soon as we heard that distinctive intro to 'Land's End,' but the amazing thing was that since it was coming out of a very quiet 'Wayfaring Stranger' with a >, no one yelled... It was just this silent and stunning transition -- still, you could see lots of people looking around and punching silent fists into the air!" New Grange is made up of Tim O'Brien (guitar, mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Alison Brown (banjo, backing vocals), Mike Marshall (mandolin, bouzouki, guitar), Darol Anger (fiddle), Todd Phillips (upright bass, backing vocals), and Phil Aaberg (grand piano, accordion).

SPRING TOUR DATES: Looks like we won't have to wait too long after New Year's for another Incident. This release has made smiles abound, especially for all the FOCs I know in SoCal. On Monday, December 6th at 10AM, MST, tickets for the following Incidents will be available for purchase on-line and by phone (hint: it will be easier and cheaper to buy on-line). NEW CD: Finally, the new SCI CD, Carnival '99, is available for order. Although we won't be able to give it a listen for another couple of weeks, here's a taste of what sort of magic we'll find (the setlist has been revealed, although the dates and venues are still up for speculation).

Disc 1: Shenandoah Breakdown, Missin' Me> Mouna Bowa, Barstool, Take Five, Hey Pocky Way, Black Clouds

Disc 2: Footprints, Don't Say> Birdland, Hold What You've Got, Jellyfish, Drum Jam, Texas

The tracks are all from the 1999 tour (between 2/99 and 4/99), save for "Texas" (?/98) which Kevin Morris from SCI Fidelity said they just couldn't resist including. If you want to get your hands on the CD free of cost, try your luck in the OFFICIAL SCI FIDELITY CONTEST. The first person to correctly guess the locations and dates of the songs on the Carnival '99 album will win a free copy (if no one gets them all, the person with the most will win). Email Kevin Morris at SCI Fidelity with your answers.

FESTIVALS 2000: Tickets went on sale November 29th for the ever impressive Telluride Bluegrass Festival, held June 15-18. The String Cheese Incident has not yet been announced to play, but we do know that the Sam Bush Band, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, the David Grisman Quintet, the John Cowan Band, Jerry Douglas, Tim O'Brien and the Crossing, Peter Rowan, and the Yonder Mountain String will be making their way to Colorado. Tickets also just went on sale December 1st for the 10th Anniversary High Sierra Music Festival, June 30th - July 3rd. This phenomenal weekend experience will be hosted this year at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds in Quincy, CA as opposed to Bear Valley. Again, SCI has not yet been listed to play but as of now Leftover Salmon, Keller Williams, and the Yonder Mountain String Band are all sure bets. Now for a festival where String Cheese will definitely be making a presence: MerleFest in Wilkesboro, NC, April 27th - 30th. Michael Kang and SCI will each be playing on Thursday, 27th and on the 28th Bill Nershi will play, along with two sets by the entire String Cheese Incident. Tickets went on sale November 9th and supposedly it is a doozy to get a camping pass, so get on this early.

NEW SONGS & COVERS: So, the madness continues with the fall tour and lucky Incident goers have gotten to taste even more new Cheese. First, a new tune titled "Searching for Love," made its way into the setlist on 10/5/99 at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota. "Sweet Melinda," a new cover sung by Keith, was first played at the 10/9/99 Denison University Incident in Ohio and has been seen on several setlists throughout the Fall Tour. This one's a Peter Rowan tune off of his album "Texacan Badman" which features Jerry Garcia along with Bill Kreutzman and David Grisman. At the 10/12/99 show in Bloomington, IN FOCs got a little Jimi during the encore with Hendrix's "Crosstown Traffic." Supposedly it could still use some polishing but was loads of fun. The new Kyle tune, "Open Wide," was introduced by Keith at the 10/14/99 Columbus, Ohio. Keith mentioned that Kyle had just showed it to the band that afternoon. Billy said that he really likes it and thinks it will be a good one once they "learn how to play it." Then SCI broke out with the Who song "Pinball Wizard" on 10/23/99 at the 9:30 Club in D.C. Tye-dye Paul wasn't surprised, recalling that Kang kept teasing this one with a big goofy grin on his face during the intro to "Hobo Song" at the 5/3/99 Fayetteville show. During the 10/29/99 show in New York City SCI intensified a lot of smiles by playing "Round the Wheel" into the Grateful Dead's "Estimated Prophet." Supposedly the boys were jamming like crazy and had the place erupting. This is the third time that the Cheese has attempted "Estimated," the first at New Year's '97 and then again on 5/8/98. By now the tour was definitely on fire but the next night took it to a new level. Halloween at The Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA has been said by many to have been epic. My advice: get the tapes. Here's some words from Cory Ferber that might help you catch some of the experience. "I really don't know where to begin but it was the most jamming I have ever experienced at a SCI show. The type of jamming was also different. At both shows, the band seemed to slow down and pause at some sort of rhythmic groove and then begin building a jam from scratch inside that musical space. To be able to witness this is a breath taking experience. The type of jams they created at Halloween appeared so much more mature and developed than anything I have ever heard from this band. They took their time and let the jam evolve on its own until finally the music truly played the band." The second set was filled with several first time covers going from Bob Marley's "Exodus" (sung by Kang, with Keller on back vocals and flugal), into "Octopus' Garden" (Beatles), to "Under African Skies" (Paul Simon), and then into "Land Down Under" (Men at Work). Billy sang lead on "Octopus' Garden" and supposedly they just nailed all of the harmonies, with Kyle adding in some nice rifts on piano. "Under African Skies" was said to have been gorgeous with a really mellow extended jam. Cory commented on a crazy jam during "Land Down Under" stating that the band sounded like it was in a washing machine.

SIDE PROJECTS: On Monday, November 29 Mike Travis and Kyle Hollingsworth entered the Nederland Acid Jazz mix at the Wolf Tongue Brewery in Nederland, Colorado. Also playing was Jamie Janover (percussion), Bill Kopper (guitar), John 'Blackdog' Ridnell (guitar) and Dirk Dickson (bass). This communion is part of a Monday night tradition in the little town of Nederland. It is an impromptu band/jam session with a rotation of jazz and funk musicians playing true mainstream jazz. You can check out the web cast of the show at www.michiganmike.com, along with the past 180+ weeks of shows. Check out some of the other nights when members of String Cheese have been part of the groove, especially the early ones from '96 with Kyle before he became part of the Cheese.

SCI RUMORS: Darol Anger has given up a tasty bit of information to the bluegrassbreakdown@onelist. "Mike Marshall and I are doing a project with Mike Kang and Paul McCandless for the String Cheese Label. Should get recorded next January and released late spring. The Leftover riddim section (Jeff and Tye) will facilitate." You gotta love all of the albums coming out under the label. I can't wait to see what this one will be like.

MP3 Files
If you're not familiar with MP3's, they are high quality compressed digital audio files. Though the files are pretty large, (60 seconds of music equals about 1 megabyte), the quality is excellent (or almost as good as the original "master" source), and mp3's finally give analog folk the ability to get a little taste of the digital realm. If you don't already have one, pick up an MP3 player for your opsystem from one of the links below:

FreeBSD Windows 95/98/NT Apple Macintosh Sun Solaris Linux Hewlett-Packard Dec Alpha
