Distribution Installed: RedHat 5.2 X server installed: SVGA server
I also bought a Linksys PCMCIA combo network adapter (I run 10B2 at home, 10BT at work) which, after inserted, worked GREAT. The linux PCMCIA services config'ed everything, and it runs smooth. I thought i would have to toy around for a while, but luckily, and happily i didn't have to.
Here's a couple details to look out for when running linux on the lifebook E series:
Sound: sound works great. i used the redhat sndconfig tool to set it up, but it didn't find it right away. Had to manually set the settings, which are:
Base-220 Irq-5 Dma-1 Dma-5 Mpu-330
Modem: it's a winmodem. UPDATE: i got mine working! get the driver from www.linmodems.org and install. I get better performance under linux than i do under windows! (kinda creepy, eh?).
X11: For an hour or two, i could not get X to correctly run on the laptop display. Then, i found a couple XF86Config files, played around, and found a couple settings that work GREAT!. You can find my XF86Config file here. You may want to change some of the keyboard settings though. It is set at 800x600 for the laptop screen (can't handle 1024x768 on the E330) but you can switch out the comments to have it run at 1024x768 for external monitors, or if you have a higher model.
