LIVING ACCOMODATIONS

To maximize the benefit of your stay in Chile, the USAC provides homestay lodging opportunities.
Upon arrival in Santiago, you will be picked up by your family.  The families who host USAC students provide you with room only, for approximately $300 each month or provide room, breakfast and dinner each day for approximately $400 each month.  Lunch, the main meal in Chile, is available at the university restaurant (called the “Casino”) at modest cost.  Students may opt to pay the homestay expenses ($300 or $400 per month) to the USAC, in which case the program coordinator assumes the responsibility of reimbursing each family on a monthly basis.

The individuals who provide this type of accommodation are primarily interested in the remuneration they receive from boarders, but that fact does not preclude the development of personal friendships with them. This option has the advantage of providing a setting more conducive to the practice of Spanish and allows you to experience more of the culture.

Rental apartments are very expensive and difficult to find.  If you want to live in an apartment, it will be your responsibility to locate one and to make all rental agreements.
