2. What is the significance of the revelation of God's name in ch. 3? What does this name mean?

3. What is Moses' attitude toward God's choice of him to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt? Why has God chosen Moses for this task? How does he differ from other Israelites?

4. Why does God repeatedly harden Pharaoh's heart, initiating round after round of plague, then granting of permission to depart, and then withdrawal of permission? Why doesn't God simply allow Pharaoh to let the Israelites go when he first decides to do so? What is God's purpose?

5. What is the purpose of the Ten commandments? How would you characterize these commandments? What role can you see them playing in the Israelite community?
